Zain African Challenge to be launched today

Zain Ghana will today launch the 'Zain African Challenge' in Accra. ZAC is a project organized by Zain - a mobile telephony company - in a number of African countries for university students who compete on various issues in a quiz competition.
This initiative forms part of the company"s corporate social responsibility. According to them, creating a "wonderful world of Zain” is not just about providing exceptional telecommunications services, but also to improve people's lives.
Zain Ghana intends to make an impact in education with their 'Build our nation" educational assistance programme.
The Zain Africa Challenge is a question and answer game played between two teams of three players each. The game is played in four rounds. The first three rounds are called Face-Off Rounds.
The fourth round is called the Ultimate Challenge.It is a half-hour inter-university, general knowledge show, which second, 2008 season aired simultaneously in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi and Zambia.
This year Nigeria, Ghana and Sierra Leone are to be added to the competitive mix, hopefully awaiting yet more additions in years to come.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday 13 January, Zain Ghana announced the establishment of toll-free emergency short-code numbers to give its customers easy access to the emergency services.
Zain customers can connect to emergency personnel 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by dialing the following short codes on their handsets: ‘191’ for the Ghana Police, ‘192’ for the Ghana National Fire Service and ‘193’ for the Ghana Ambulance Service.
In a presentation at Zain Ghana’s flagship store in Osu, a suburb of Accra, representatives from Ghana’s emergency services were each presented with a response-ready handset. Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Philip Aheng-Mensah, Director of Fire Safety for the Ghana National Fire Service and George Ashie of the Ghana
Ambulance Service accepted the donation on behalf of their respective departments. Ghana Police will also receive a handset from Zain.
DCFO Aheng-Mensah acknowledged that Zain recognizes the importance of making Ghana’s emergency response system available to all of its customers nationwide. He said "Zain’s efforts, including today’s presentation of handsets, give us confidence that they fully support our commitment to maintaining the health and safety of our citizens.”
