A group calling itself the GaDangme Forward Movement has descended heavily on the GaDangme Youth over the latter's ethnocentric pronouncements and also their stand about the use of public property at Ridge as offices by Ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor.
The GaDangme Forward Movement accused President Atta Mills and the National Democratic Congress of being the brains behind the actions of the GaDangme Youth that is aimed at demonizing Ex-President Kufuor. According to the Movement, "The amount of invectives hurled on Ex-President Kufuor by this group led by Prince Derrick Adjei on several radio stations tells of his disrespect to the elderly.”
The Movement disclosed that members of the GaDangme Youth such as Nii Marmah, Dzale Manso, Rashid Ofei Doodo and Nii Kpakpo Saamua are strong supporters of the NDC, whiles Prince Derrick Adjei is the youth organizer of the Democratic Freedom Party, an offshoot of the NDC.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra to react to a recent press release from the GaDangme Youth expressing their misgivings about the use of a public property at Ridge as offices by Ex-President Kufuor, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover said the actions of the group were purely political and cannot be sanctioned by the entire GaDangme chiefs and people.
"We are respectfully calling on Nii Ga and his elders to call these young men to order because their action is a disgrace to the entire Ga State,” he added. He described the actions of the GaDangme Youth as “parochial, politically motivated and unfortunate because it lacks merit and has no legal basis”.
He stressed that the Ga State has not conducted any congress to elect “these political and ethnic deviants as their mouth piece,” adding, “the GaDangme Youth cannot speak for the entire GaDangme people since they do not have the mandate to do so.”
The Movement queried why the GaDangme Youth have failed to question Ex-President Rawlings for residing on GaDangme land at his Ridge residence, pointing out that “if indeed they want to speak for the Ga Dangme people, why should they be selective in their actions.”
To the GaDangme Forward Movement, Ex-President Kufuor has done so much for the GaDangme people in particular and the nation at large. They were of the opinion that this is the time to appreciate him and tap his rich experience.
They consequently appealed to President Atta Mills to emulate the good deeds done for the Ga Dangme people by Ex-President Kufuor. On the need for peaceful co-existence, Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover noted that GaDangmes have intermarried, and settled in other parts of the country in peace.
He said GaDangmes should continue to co-exist peacefully with their fellow Ghanaians to promote unity and national cohesion. “We are not by any stretch of imagination saying that GaDangme citizens should not champion the fight for the release of our lands by government.
But our actions should be guided by maturity, wisdom, respect and the rule of law,” he emphasised.
He reminded the GaDangme Youth that it was through tribal politics that thousands of innocent people were killed in Rwanda genocide, and maintained that “we must therefore do everything humanly possible to promote peace, unity and love among ourselves.”
