Statesman website sabotaged

The harassment and threat by the ruling government to individuals and organizations perceived to be supporters or sympathizers of the New Patriotic Party continues unabated.
The methods in which these actions are being carried out continue to increase in brutality and also in sophistication. It seems everything is being done to either weaken or silence everything perceived opposition to the ruling NDC government.
The Statesman had its share of the harassment yesterday when the paper’s website, www.thestatesmanonline.com, was sabotaged. Perhaps, this is the only way detractors of The Statesman can prevent the paper from informing Ghanaians and exposing the ills in the Mills administration.
Throughout yesterday, all visitors to the website of the paper were redirected to another website by name Esinam’s Personal Website. The new website belongs to a one and half year old girl, who claims she would be 2year’s old in July 2008. The new website also contains news and up coming events such as the girl’s dad's birthday, July 11, followed by her mummy's birthday, July14 then her own birthday July 29. It also promises a special invitation to the child’s birthday to all visitors to the site.
The new website is powered by Ewisoft Website Builder and eCommerce Website Design Software.
Those ‘lucky’ to have a semblance of the Statesman website got only archived material, some as old as a year and a half.
Frank Agyei-Twum, Editor, commented: “This is just one of the communist inferior tactics used by governments that fear their own shadows. We remain unbowed, ready and able to serve our cherished readers.”
